Trade Nation halves its FX overnight admin fee from 2.5% to 1.25%

Trade Nation is halving the admin fee it adds to the financing of currency positions held overnight, from 2.5% to 1.25% a year. The new rate takes effect on Friday 30 October, the broker told clients in an email.

⚡ Key numbers:

  • 1.25% a year — the new admin fee in overnight financing on FX positions (previously 2.5%)
  • 30 October, 10pm London time — first charge at the new rate
  • unchanged — overnight charges on commodities, indices and shares
  • about €3.42 less per night — the drop in the admin portion on a 1-lot EUR/USD position (€100,000), ForexRev calculation

What is changing

According to an email Trade Nation sent to clients on 29 October, the admin fee in overnight financing on currency positions falls from 2.5% to 1.25% a year. The new rate applies to all FX positions from the daily 10pm London cut-off on Friday 30 October.

The cut covers currencies only. Overnight charges on commodities, indices and shares stay the same. As the broker points out, only the admin portion of the fee is reduced — the other part still depends on the interest rates of both currencies.

How Trade Nation calculates overnight financing

The fee applies to rolling spot FX positions that remain open after 10pm London time. Trades opened and closed within the same day are not charged.

The charge has two parts. First, the broker settles interest according to the benchmark rates of both currencies in the pair: the client receives interest on the currency bought and pays it on the currency sold. The broker then deducts its admin fee from that result — 1.25% a year instead of 2.5% from 30 October.

In practice, a position that pays financing will pay 1.25 percentage points a year less, and a position that receives interest will get that much more. On a 1-lot EUR/USD position (€100,000), the admin portion falls from €2,500 to €1,250 a year — dividing by 365 days, as in the broker's own example, from about €6.85 to about €3.42 per night.

Which clients does it cover?

The link in the email points to the cost page for clients of Trade Nation Ltd, the group's Bahamas entity regulated by the Securities Commission of the Bahamas (SCB). The group also serves clients through entities regulated in the UK (FCA), the EU (Trade Nation Europe, supervised by Portugal's CMVM), Australia (ASIC), South Africa (FSCA) and the Seychelles (FSA).

On 29 October, the broker's cost pages for the Bahamas, the UK and the EU still showed the 2.5% fee, which fits the effective date. The broker did not say explicitly whether the new rate applies across all group entities, so it is worth checking the current cost page or the financing details in the platform before holding a position overnight.

The broker is known for fixed spreads on its own TN Trader platform, and for short-term trades the spread remains the main cost. The fee cut matters most to traders who hold currency positions for days or weeks. Trading leveraged CFDs carries a high risk of losing money.

What to watch next

  • Updated Trade Nation cost pages after 30 October, including the UK and EU versions
  • Central bank decisions — rate changes move the other part of the overnight charge, regardless of the broker's fee
