Broker Overview & Key Information

Saxo Bank, established in 1992 in Denmark, is one of the most prestigious, multi-asset brokerage firms in the world. Functioning as a fully licensed Danish investment bank, Saxo caters to a global audience, providing retail, professional, and institutional traders with direct market access to a staggering number of financial instruments. Often considered a premium broker, Saxo has recently restructured its pricing to become highly competitive for everyday traders while maintaining its top-tier institutional-grade trading infrastructure.

Asset Classes Forex, CFDs, Stocks, ETFs, Options, Futures, Bonds

Regulation, Safety, and Trust

When it comes to safety, Saxo is arguably one of the most secure brokers you can choose. Unlike standard offshore brokers, Saxo operates with a full banking license.

  • Tier-1 Regulations: Saxo is regulated by top-tier authorities worldwide, including the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA), the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Swiss FINMA, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
  • Banking Status: Because it operates as a licensed Danish bank, client funds are strictly segregated and protected under the Danish Guarantee Fund (up to €100,000 for cash deposits).
  • Negative Balance Protection: Retail clients residing in the EU and the UK are fully protected against negative balances, ensuring you cannot lose more than your initial deposit during extreme market volatility.

Tradable Instruments (Forex, CFDs, Options)

Saxo’s product portfolio is simply unmatched by standard retail MT4/MT5 brokers. They offer access to over 71,000+ tradable instruments across the globe.

  • Forex: Over 185 FX spot pairs and 140 forward contracts, giving traders access to majors, minors, and a massive selection of exotic currencies.
  • CFDs: More than 9,000 CFDs on stocks, indices, commodities, and bonds.
  • Options & Futures: Over 1,200 listed options across 23 global exchanges, plus over 200 futures contracts and direct FX Vanilla Options.
  • Real Stocks & ETFs: Direct access to global stock exchanges with thousands of real stocks and ETFs for long-term investing.
  • Bonds: Digital access to thousands of government and corporate bonds, a rare feature among retail brokers.

Fees, Spreads, and Account Tiers

Historically seen as expensive, Saxo implemented aggressive price cuts in 2024, making it highly attractive. Pricing depends heavily on your account tier: Bronze/Classic, Silver/Platinum, and Gold/VIP (tier names vary slightly by region). Moving up tiers depends on your trading volume and account equity.

Forex Spreads: For the EUR/USD pair, the spread on standard accounts starts around 0.9 pips. However, if you qualify for higher tiers (VIP), spreads can drop as low as 0.4 pips without any additional commission per trade.

Other Fees to consider:

  • Inactivity & Deposits: No inactivity fees, and zero fees on deposits and withdrawals via bank transfer.
  • Currency Conversion: Trades executed in a currency different from your account’s base currency incur a conversion fee of up to 0.25%.
  • Custody Fees: For holding real stocks, ETFs, or bonds, Saxo charges an annual custody fee ranging from 0.09% to 0.15% (with a minimum of around €5 per month), depending on your tier. Note: This fee does not apply to Forex and CFD trading.

Trading Platforms: SaxoTraderGO & PRO

Saxo does not offer MetaTrader. Instead, they have invested heavily in their proprietary, award-winning technology, delivering arguably the best standalone platforms in the industry.

  • SaxoTraderGO (Web & Mobile): A beautifully designed, highly intuitive web platform that works flawlessly on browsers and mobile apps. It features robust charting packages (over 50 technical indicators), seamless cross-device syncing, and an incredibly clean interface that suits both beginner investors and active traders.
  • SaxoTraderPRO (Desktop): Built for power users and professionals, this downloadable software supports up to 6 monitors. It features Level 2 order books, algorithmic orders, options chains, and highly customizable workspaces designed for high-frequency day trading.

Final Verdict

Saxo Bank is the ultimate powerhouse for serious traders and investors who demand high security, professional-grade platforms, and access to a vast universe of global markets. While the lack of MetaTrader and the presence of custody fees for long-term stock holdings might deter some micro-traders, their recent massive fee reductions and the removal of minimum deposits make Saxo an elite broker that is now accessible to everyone. If you trade Forex, CFDs, or want to dive into Options and Futures, Saxo is undeniably one of the absolute best choices on the global market.

ForexRev Verification Process: We rigorously evaluate all brokers reviewed on our platform. Our assessment methodology includes opening live accounts, testing the proprietary trading platforms (SaxoTraderGO/PRO), verifying execution speeds, analyzing fee structures against industry averages, and cross-checking regulatory statuses with primary financial authorities (such as the Danish FSA and FCA) to ensure complete transparency for retail traders.

Risk Warning & Legal Disclaimer: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. A high percentage of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Saxo Bank doesn't give a shit about clients. Watch out because withdrawn cash goes to an intermediary bank in Poland, and stays in it for long months. Saxo Bank doesn't feel responsible to help in recovering the money.

Cool platform, spreads also not the worst. It's cool that they lowered the minimum deposit to 2 thousand USD.
